The NetSafety Family App can restrict access to web content across 42 categories; and blocks phishing, fraud and other malicious websites used by cybercriminals.

Compatible with all major operating systems, the NetSafety Family App protects each family member while they browse the web.

General FAQs

What minimum operating systems are required to run the NetSafety Family App?

The NetSafety Family App is compatible across Windows, macOS, Android and iOS devices.

  • Microsoft Windows 7 or higher; Processor: Pentium 4 or better; Memory/RAM: Minimum (2GB), Recommended (4GB and above); Hard Disk Space: 500MB and above.
  • macOS 10.12 or higher; 1.0GHz or better; Memory 2GB and above; Hard Disk Space < 10MB
  • Android 5.0 or higher; Screen resolution 480 x 800 or higher
  • iOS 11 or higher; 64-bit device
Is the NetSafety Family App free?

The NetSafety Family App is a monthly subscription-based App that can be purchased via the App Store, Google Play Store or Microsoft Store.

Is the NetSafety Family App available worldwide?

Currently the NetSafety Family App is available from the App Store, Google Play Store and Microsoft Store in Australia, New Zealand, Philippines, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, and United States of America.

How do I access the NetSafety Family App?

iPhone/Mac

  • Open the App Store App.
  • Browse or search for ‘NetSafety Family’.
  • Click the ‘Buy’ button and follow the additional onscreen prompts.

 

Android

You can get Apps for your device using the Google Play Store App. The Play Store App comes pre-installed on Android devices that support Google Play and can be downloaded on some Chromebooks.

 On your device, go to the Apps section.

  • Tap the Google Play Store App.
  • When open search for ‘NetSafety Family’.
  • Click the ‘Buy’ button and follow the additional onscreen prompts.

Microsoft Store

  • Go to the Start button on you PC, and then from the Apps list select Microsoft Store.
  • Visit the Apps tab in Microsoft Store.
  • Search for ‘NetSafety Family’ App.
  • Select the App, and then ‘Buy’.
  • Follow the additional onscreen prompts.
How do I activate the NetSafety Family App?

Once the NetSafety Family App has been downloaded to your device, activating the App is simple.

  • Firstly, open the App.
  • Next, we’ll ask you to add the VPN Configuration to initiate web protection.
    You’ll be prompted to permit the App to add a VPN configuration to your device. Tap Allow to have the VPN configured on your device.
  • Next, when prompted, enter your mobile number.
  • Lastly, enter the 6-digit SMS code we send you to complete the activation process.
How do I download the NetSafety Family App onto multiple devices?

You need to download and install the NetSafety Family App on each device you want to protect. Once the first installation of the App has taken place, subsequent App installation will show as ‘Get’ or ‘Open’ rather than ‘Buy’.

Simply visit the App Store, Google Play Store or Microsoft Store on each device you want to protect, search for the ‘NetSafety Family’ App and follow the onscreen prompts to install. Once the App is installed on your device, activate the NetSafety Family App (see: How do I activate the NetSafety Family App?).

What does the NetSafety Family App block?

Once downloaded and installed the NetSafety Family App can restrict access to web content across 42 categories; and blocks phishing, fraud and other malicious websites used by cybercriminals.

How do Profile’s work?

The NetSafety Family App enables users to set-up four profiles – Adult, Teen, Child and Custom. Each profile is controlled by an Admin level user (most commonly a parent) who can tailor the content categories they wish to block within each profile. Admin level users can also customise their own content categories list.

What content categories can be blocked within each Profile?

Categories are easily selected for each profile and categories include:

Ads; Advice; Blogs; Business; Computers & Software; Education; Entertainment; File Sharing; Financial; Gambling; Games; Government; Hacking; Hate, Violence, Racism & Illegal Drugs; Health; Hobbies; Hosting; Instant Messaging; Job Search; Mature Content; Medicine, Alcohol & Cigars; Narcotics; News; Online Dating; Online Payment; Online Photo; Online Shopping; Photos & Videos; Pornography; Portals; Radio Music; Religious; Search Engines; Social Networks; Sports; Suicide; Tabloids; Time Wasters; Travel; Weapons; Web Mail; and Web Proxy.

What if I don’t know what content categories to block?

The NetSafety Family App automatically suggests categories based on each of the four profiles Adult, Teen, Child, and Custom to help ensure maximum protection for each user. Examples include:

Adult Profile
Block > 1. Ads, 17. Illegal

Teen Profile
Block > 1. Ads, 6. Drugs, 10 Gambling, 12. Hacking 13. hate 17. Illegal 20 Mature content, 21 Narcotics, 23 Online dating, 27 Porn, 34 Suicide, 39 Violent cartoons, 40 Weapons

Child Profile
Block > All 42 categories

Custom Profile – Select any combination from the 42 categories.

All profiles are covered by a web protect function that removes malicious content, and Admin level users will be notified over email daily if there is a recorded blocked page event.

What platforms does the App monitor?

In addition to providing a web protect function while browsing, the App monitors the following social media, email, chat, and messaging platforms:

Snapchat; Facebook; Spotify; Twitter; Instagram; Tumblr; Gmail; Google Hangouts; Chat; Outlook/Hotmail; OneDrive; OneNote; Dropbox; Yahoo! Mail; YouTube; Discord; Pinterest; GroupMe; Houseparty; Steam; Holla; VSCO; Lipsi; Messenger Kids; Flickr; WhatsApp; KikiOS; Text Messaging; Photos; Videos; Android Text Messaging; Slack; Skype; Reddit; TikTok.

Does the App analyse and block video and images?

Yes. The NetSafety Family App analyses images and videos associated with a message or that are stored on a device. They are analysed for nudity, violence, and other inappropriate content, including text added to the images.

How does the Parental Lock feature work?

Admin level users can set a secure pin and fall-back email address to block unwanted changes being made to content category settings. The parental lock feature is easily accessible to set-up from within the App.

Is my family’s data safe and secure?

Yes.  Security is our number one priority, and the NetSafety Family App uses SSL encryption and all the data that is analysed is stored within encrypted databases.

Does the App offer the same level of protection across all operating systems?

Yes. The same high-level protection is delivered via the App across iOS, macOS, Android and Windows operating systems.

How do I get technical support for the App?

Go to NetSafety Family App Help & Support section on your App for 24-hour online technical support.

How do I view my billing information and history?

To view billing and subscription information in relation to the NetSafety Family App please visit the online store that you used to subscribe to the App (App Store, Google Play Store or Microsoft Store). From the relevant store you’ll be able to select the NetSafety Family App and view/review your billing information and settings.

How do I cancel my subscription?

iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  • Open the Settings App.
  • Tap your name.
  • Tap Subscriptions.
  • Tap the subscription that you want to manage.
  • Tap Cancel Subscription. (Or if you want to cancel one but keep some subscriptions, tap Choose Individual Services.)
  • Note: If you cannot see Cancel, the subscription has been cancelled already and won’t renew.

Android

  • Open the Google Play App Google Play on your phone.
  • At the top right, tap the profile icon.
  • Tap Payments & subscriptions and then Subscriptions.
  • Select the subscription you want to cancel.
  • Tap Cancel subscription.
  • Follow the instructions.

Mac

  • Open the App Store app.
  • Click the sign-in button or your name at the bottom of the sidebar.
  • Click View Information at the top of the window. You might be asked to sign in.
  • On the page that appears, scroll until you see Subscriptions, then click Manage.
  • Click Edit next to the subscription that you want.
  • Click Cancel Subscription.
  • If you can’t see Cancel Subscription, then the subscription has already been cancelled and won’t be renewed.

Windows

  • To cancel your Microsoft subscription.
  • Go to Services & subscriptions and sign in with the Microsoft account you used to purchase your subscription.
  • Find your subscription and select Manage.
  • On the next page, select Cancel or Upgrade or Cancel, depending on your subscription type.
  • Follow the instructions on the page to proceed with cancellation.
How do I delete the NetSafety Family App from my device?

iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  • Touch and hold the NetSafety Family App.
  • Tap Remove App Remove App icon.
  • Tap Delete App, then tap Delete to confirm.

If you touch and hold an app from the Home Screen and the Apps start to jiggle:

  • Tap the Remove icon in the top left-hand corner of the App.
  • Tap Delete App, then tap Delete to confirm.
  • Tap Done.

With iOS 14, instead of deleting apps, you can remove apps from your Home Screen, so that they only appear in your App Library.

Android

Note: Some of these steps work only on Android 8.1 and up.

  • Open the Google Play Store app Google Play.
  • Tap Menu and then My apps & games.
  • Tap on the NetSafety Family App.
  • Tap Uninstall.

If you delete or disable an App, you can add it back to your phone.

 

Mac

Use the Finder to delete an app.

  • Locate the NetSafety Family App in the Finder. Most Apps are in your Applications folder, which you can open by clicking Applications in the sidebar of any Finder window. Or use Spotlight to find the App, then press and hold the Command (⌘) key while double-clicking the App in Spotlight.
  • Drag the App to the Bin or select the App and choose File > Move to Bin.
  • If you’re asked for a username and password, enter the name and password of an administrator account on your Mac. This is probably the name and password that you use to log in to your Mac.
  • To delete the app, choose Finder > Empty Bin.

 

Windows

Uninstall from the Start menu.

  • Select Start and look for the NetSafety Family App in the list shown.
    Press and hold (or right-click) on the App, then select Uninstall.

Uninstall from the Settings page.

  • Select Start, then select Settings > Apps > Apps & features,
  • Select the SafeCentral by Aol App and then select Uninstall.
Do you share my information with 3rd parties?
We do not share customer information with any 3rd parties.

Common Tasks (Device/App)

iPhone

Viewing information about the device.

  • Go to Settings, General, About. The items you can view include: Name / iOS software version / Model name, serial number etc.

Viewing overall storage availability and storage used per App.

  • Go to Settings, General, iPhone Storage.

Viewing battery usage.

  • Go to Settings, Battery to see the elapsed time since iPhone has been charged and usage by App. You can also display battery level as a percentage, turn Low Power Mode on or off, and check your battery’s health.

Android

Viewing information about the device.

  • Go to Settings, Android System Info. The items you can view include: Model name, version etc.

Viewing overall storage availability and storage used per App.

  • From the home screen, choose Apps or swipe up to access your Apps.
  • Choose Settings.
  • Choose Device maintenance or Device care. If you do not see this screen, go to step.
  • Choose device maintenance.
  • Choose Storage (you may need to scroll down a little).
  • This will now show you how much storage you have left on your device. If you have an SD card, the remaining space on the SD card will be shown at the bottom of the screen.

Viewing battery usage.

  • Open your Settings App on your Android device.
  • Locate and tap Battery.
  • In the Battery window, tap the menu button in the upper-right corner.
  • From the popup, tap Battery Usage.
  • In the resulting window, take a look at what Apps are using your battery.
